Overview

The Card Scanner is a local-first iPhone app developed by Joe Maza. It scans business cards, lets you review the detected details, stores confirmed records in a local mini CRM, and can save information to Apple Contacts. The app is designed to perform this work on your device without sending business-card information to Joe Maza or an external processing service.

Information processed by the app

When you scan and save a card, the app may process names, companies, job titles, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, postal addresses, notes, and an image of the business card. This information is processed to provide the features you request.

On-device OCR and local storage

  • Business-card text recognition uses Apple's on-device Vision technology.
  • Confirmed CRM records and compressed card images are stored locally on the iPhone using Apple's local data-storage frameworks.
  • Message templates, sender-name preferences, and basic app settings are stored locally on the device.
  • The current app does not require a Joe Maza account or upload CRM records to a Joe Maza server.

Camera access

The app requests camera access so you can photograph business cards. Captured images are used for on-device recognition, review, and the local card image associated with a saved record. The app does not upload camera images to Joe Maza.

Apple Contacts access

If you grant Contacts access, the app uses it to look for possible duplicates and to create or update a contact after you confirm a scan. With limited Contacts access, the app can only search the contacts made available to it.

The cropped business-card image may be saved as the Apple Contact image for a new contact or a confirmed strong match. Apple Contacts records are managed separately by iOS and remain in Contacts unless you remove them there.

Messages and email

When you choose a follow-up action, the app passes the selected recipient and prepared text to Apple's Messages or Mail interface. You review and choose whether to send the communication. The Card Scanner does not send messages or emails in the background.

Subscriptions and purchases

If your version of The Card Scanner offers a subscription, purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. Joe Maza does not receive your full payment-card or bank-account information. Apple may provide purchase status and transaction or subscription reports needed to operate and support the purchase.

No advertising, tracking, or sale of data

The current app does not include third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. Joe Maza does not sell business-card details, CRM information, or other personal information processed by the app.

Data retention and deletion

  • You can delete individual records from the local CRM inside the app.
  • Deleting the app removes its locally stored app data, subject to normal iPhone backup and restoration behavior controlled by Apple and your settings.
  • Copies saved to Apple Contacts must be removed separately in the Contacts app.
  • Deleting the app does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription. Subscriptions are managed through Apple.

Your choices

You can decline Contacts access and continue using the local CRM. Camera access is necessary to scan a physical card. Permissions can be reviewed at any time in iPhone Settings.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app's features or data practices change. The effective and last-updated dates at the top of this page will identify the current version.
